Homemakers and Nurses Services

Operating under the authority of the Homemakers and Nurses Services Act, this program purchases homemaking services such as light housekeeping, meal preparation and shopping from contracted agencies in the community, on behalf of elderly people, persons with disabilities and some families in crisis.

The program’s purpose is to assist clients who qualify under a functional and financial needs assessment to live independently in their own homes, thus preventing premature admittance to a long-term care facility or a family break-up.

Caseworkers visit clients in their homes and complete functional and financial assessments to determine their individual needs. Case management functions include assessment, re-assessment, case planning, case co-ordination and referrals to other community resources.
