    Mindful Practice : A Guided Session
    This workshop for persons with dementia in the early stages will guide participants through a variety of techniques used in mindful practice. Techniques, such as focused breathing and guided imagery, aim to increase concentration and decrease stress and will be further explored.

    Walk A Mile in My Shoes
    This exciting workshop is designed to help family members understand the perspective of a person with dementia. The participants will be provided with information on communication and empathy, physiology of someone with Dementia, and guided through an aging simulation designed to help you understand those changes and some of the struggles elderly people may experience.
    At the end of the workshop the participants will learn some relaxation and breathing techniques to assist them with managing their responses to their situations at home.

    Rotman Research Institute Conference (20th Annual)
    The Frontal Lobes: 1990, 2000, and now 2010
    There will be three special keynote Speakers. The Conference will consist of five days of formal presentations by leading researchers from around the world. The program is broken down into specific symposia centered on a common theme.
    Questions and Panel Discussions - at the end of each session, the speakers will convene into a panel and respond to questions from the audience. As well, 5-minute Q&A periods will take place after each presentation. Speakers will be requested to disclose to the audience any real or apparent conflict(s) of interest that may have a direct bearing on the subject matter of this program.

    Conference Objectives:
    By the end of the conference, participants will be able to:
  • identify the anatomy and pathophysiology of frontal lobe function and dysfunction
  • recognize the value of neuropharmacological, neurophysiological and neuroimaging assessment and treatment procedures

    Hands offer a more intimate glimpse into the soul than eyes, especially when the hands are holding something dear.

    Exhibit includes 15 photos of persons with dementia holding or doing something of personal significance offer a window into their personalities, a glimpse into the thoughts that they can no longer express.
    Catalog that accompanies this exhibit is available for viewing online.

    On loan from Downsview Services to Seniors, this exhibit is currently on display in the Resource Centre.
    The Handful of Memories Project was featured in the Toronto Star, September 12, 2009.
